Essential Practices of the Christian Life Pastor Steve Harper

As people of faith, it can be challenging because we go to church and hear about how to live a Christian life, yet in our busy lives (with so many things pulling at us), it’s hard to figure out how to put these things into practice in a way that will actually change our lives. So often we’re dealing with worry, fear, pain from losses, anger, indecision, struggles to forgive. In this course, we’re going to learn to use tools that are designed to help us with this challenge—tools that show us how to put Jesus’s teachings into practice right in the midst of our everyday lives. Book required - $15.

Evangelism Training Workshop (starts Oct 18) Pastor Richard Toburen

One of the requirements for ordination/consecration is that you are effective in sharing your faith in a one-on-one situation. We have found that even if you have had a class on evangelism through the church or Bible college, a refresher course is very helpful. The Central District of the CMA provides this training a couple of times each year at various churches in the District. Grace Church will host an Evangelism Training Workshop beginning Wednesday, October 18 and continuing through November 15.

In this class you will learn some techniques that you can use to turn a conversation to spiritual things.  Jesus used good questions and identified needs that He saw in people.  You will be trained in some of these techniques.  You will learn how to take your own brokenness and turn it into an opportunity to share your hope in Christ.  You will then learn how to move that conversation into a clear presentation of the Gospel with an opportunity to respond to this message of hope.

Rev. Rick Toburen will be the presenter for this workshop.  Rick has been a bi-vocational pastor for 30 years while he taught chemistry at Solon High School.  Rick retired in 2013 and began working full-time with the Central District as the Coordinator for Ordination/Consecration and the LEAD program.  He loves to equip men and women to be more effective in utilizing their gifts and abilities to serve the Lord in His Kingdom.

Please pre-register at www.cdcma.org\resources\events.  You can pay the $10 workbook fee at that time. This course fulfills the ordination/consecration evangelism training requirement but training is open to everyone.

Grace is Greater (starts Oct 18) Pastor Dennis Barta, Tom Ziegler & Russ Czellath

Perhaps nothing is as hard to explain as God’s grace. It doesn’t make sense. It’s not fair. It can’t possibly cover over what you have done. The best way-- perhaps the only real way-- to understand it is to experience it. Through the powerful medium of story, Grace Is Greater leads people past their hang-ups toward an understanding of grace that is bigger than their mistakes, their failures and their seemingly impossible situations. Together we’ll discover that no sin is so great and no bitterness so deep that God’s grace cannot transform the heart and rewrite the story. Book available - $11.

One in Messiah Dr. Phil Gigliotti

The Plan of Salvation unfolds through the entire Scripture. The writer to the Hebrews tells us that in the Old Testament we were shown the types and shadows of what was to come.  Jesus (Yeshua) is the Substance.  He always pointed out to the religious leaders that Moses spoke about Him and that the Scrolls were all about Him. In this class we learn how the Old Testament shows us the revelation of God and the groundwork for being righteous. This is then fulfilled when Messiah becomes the perfect Sacrifice in atonement for our sin and that He becomes our righteousness! The Law shows us what we are and Grace sets us free from that bondage! When we understand the Old Testament, we can REALLY appreciate what actually happened on the Cross.

The Protestant Reformation marks one of the most influential shifts in Western History.  In the early 16th century, a group of Christians set out to challenge what they saw as abuses within the church. As a result, they returned to the Bible as the sole source of authority for the Christian.  This class examines the years 1500-1563 to see how the Protestant Reformation rediscovered the true Christian faith and left a legacy that is still vibrant within current evangelicalism.

Upper Room: A Weekly Time of Worship & Prayer Pastor Jim Hicks

The Upper Room is where it all began in the book of Acts as the disciples gathered to worship and pray. If you have a desire to do the same and to draw near to God, He's promised to draw near to you and to refresh you with His presence. The Upper Room is a comfortable setting where you can grow in faith and prayer for yourself and others, the Church and the nation.  Each Wednesday begins with worship and a short time in the Word, followed by a time of seeking the Lord in prayer.  “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7)
